AI isn’t just a tech buzzword—it’s stepping into studios and reshaping how we make music. With models like Suno and Udio creating full songs in minutes, producers everywhere are asking: Can a machine groove?

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said it best in a recent panel:

“..The sooner we figure out how to utilize it (AI) … the better .”

This isn’t the first time music has faced a technological shift. When Roger Linn introduced the LinnDrum in the 1980s, many feared drum machines would replace real drummers. Instead, artists like Prince and Michael Jackson used it to create timeless hits. The LinnDrum didn’t erase creativity—it redefined it.

AI is our generation’s LinnDrum moment. It can generate melodies, harmonies, and beats instantly, but the feel—the emotion—still depends on us. The best producers won’t compete with AI; they’ll collaborate with it, using it to spark new ideas and streamline their process.

At the end of the day, whether it’s a LinnDrum or an algorithm, technology doesn’t kill the groove—it evolves it. The real challenge is making sure the heart behind the beat stays human.
